Local news forum
The other day, there was an appeal on a local community website for the return of an African grey parrot which somehow flew from his loving home.
One of the ignorant natives of the area replied to the appeal to recover the bird with:

The keeping of all exotic pets should be banned. Parrots don't belong in houses and they certainly don't belong in cages. If God had intended them to be domesticated he wouldn't have given them wings.

I have since replied with the following well-wishes for the parrot, keeper, and a bit of an eye-opener for the ignorant responder:
Quote:
I hope that the AGP's found soon!
...I look after exotic animals myself, and I would rather help to educate people than to alienate people as you are doing. Unlike yourself, I'm not going to step into the realm of theology but, I hope that you'll respect my response as I do your own.
Due to our own seemingly selfish behaviours, many species have long since disappeared from this planet which we inhabit.
Fortunately, there are some people who are more than willing to help maintain the succession of such creatures in captivity. Those such as myself spend a great deal of time, effort, as well as money, in trying their very best at replicating their native living conditions including environmental temperatures, humidity, diet, etc., which we refer to as "husbandry". Without "keepers" such as ourselves, these animals would have long-since vanished and have resorted to becoming subjects of myth and legends.
Next time you feel the need to be so flippant in such a response to an appeal for help, you might think twice?

Hopefully, the AGP will be returned soon but, let's see how the poster responds....
