Angry Ahhhhhh MITES!!!!! Again!!!! Please help!!

Ahhhh I cant take this any more!! I have mites again!! I'm really getting sick of it, where do these things come from?! I just treated my Royal, viv, decor/hides for them with Rep Guard, didnt work, so went Au Natural and got defender mites which have been highly recommended, was told to treat all three vivs with them, which I did and they seemed to work....happy days I thought, now my royal is mite free but now my Boa which has never had them, has them. I havnt got another £15 to spend on more mites, am seriously considering provent a mite, which again has been highly recommended, but lots of mixed reviews with use of and difficult to purchase in uk, can someone please help, suggestions, products etc? really sick of stripping my vivs every other week and the stress it may be causing to my babies. I leave my cry of help in your hands!

OK i have used P A M ( got it from someone on here last year) I can honestly say my burm has NOT had them since i treated her and her tank. But yes its expensive about £20 + P&P - look on ebay you may get it.

BUT a cheaper option is Surgical Spirit (£1 in the cheapo shops or maybe more in chemists)
Its simple to use. Spray tank and all furniture with it Use neat and buy a small cheap spray bottle, let smell dissipate then clean with Boiling hot water tank and all furniture.
Make sure smell has totally gone before you put your reptile back. As for reptile bath, ive heard people use soapy water - not used so cant recommend.
IVe also heard of people using sunflower/vegetable oil to put on paper towel and ron over the snake - apparently it suffocates the mites, then after an hr or so bath the snake and they should be dead.

One other alternative is to go to your vets and get some frontline - it has to be made up by the vet, that also works and again that method i have used on my beardie by dabing it on the skin where the mites hide but NOT around the face - like anything you may use stear clear of face!

hope this helps

that i cant really answer but will try! There is a saying if you have mites then your a real snake keeper lol! as said earlier ive had them on my lizard as well as my snake.

Sometimes they can be in the substrate ie the beech chips or what ever you use. safe things to use is newspaper or kitchen towel as you can see them and they cant hide. Chips they can lay eggs in them. You can also pick them up from your local store without knowing it. These horrid little things can travel miles in minutes - if your bored google mites for more info. They are so tiny that you may not even see them until there are thousands of them. I really have no idea how that 1st mite gets to you and how quickly they breed. I know lots of people that have had them and well to be honest the more you clean the worse they can get ( if that sort of makes sense) They also breed under the skin and the eggs i believe are impossible to see with the naked eye, so you may think you have killed them all of, but the eggs will hatch in a few days and your back to square one.
You could bin all your tank, furniture etc start a fresh and STILL end up with them.

I used to get mites quite often my way of getting rid of them was to
Microwave all substrate before use and all my snakes have a water bowls big enough 2 completely submerce themselves in.

This may help aswell

Go and get some Front Line from the vets it will kill all of your mites, spray the vivs wait till it drys spray it on a cloth and wipe down your snakes it is fantastic stuff and I have never had any problems with it.
Samantha had 20 baby royals and they had mites we treated the snakes and vivs and then again a week later and we have never seen another mite in her collection. I front line all my new snakes when i get them home and I have 16 at the mo and not 1 mite. I cant rate this stuff enough
