Default Lost a snake? Wanna know how to make a snake trap?

I have been approached by a moderator who has asked me if I would post this here. I can confirm that I am the original author and no copyright has been breached.

Anyone who's ever lost a snake will know how stressful it can be trying to search the house for it! Especially small snakes. There are several 'methods' of finding your snake and here I am going to show you how to make a very simple snake trap. Its cheap, easy, and safe to use and I've found a snake using this trap before.

Firstly, wash out an empty bottle and cut the top off.

Then, unscrew the lid and make a chute out of a bit of plastic bag. Tape this to the neck of the bottle.

This chute will allow a snake to go into the bottle but then the plastic will drape over the opening behind the snake so that it can't get back out.

Once you have done this you then need to invert the top of the bottle and secure it into the bottom of the bottle to make a chamber in which the snake will get caught.

The snake can get into the bottle very easily as the end has a large opening which narrows. It cannot however, get back out!

Now all you need to do is put the snakes favorite food in the trap(s) and leave them around the house! Making small holes in the bottle will allow for the scent to escape and attract your hungry snake!

I hope this is of some help to anyone who looses a snake!

Jimmy.

Yes ive heard of quite afew

Do you have any suggestions for say large snakes that go missing say 4ft or even 10ft
as this trap is ideal for the smaller snakes

the tick yes i asked that but i assume a large lucazade bottle top piece and the other end of a pop bottle might do the trick as the opening is larger- depends on how fat the corn is and well as its length, but suppose you could always put two bottles together for length. other thing might be a good idea is a large water bottle ( 5 ltr one i suppose) they have larger openings too.

our adult has gotten out due to our daughter was helping me change the water in our vivs and she left the one in her room open and new we cannot find a 5ft corn.

We can't go to bed until we find him as we have a cat and the cat would do more damage

Sorry, I clicked groan by accident instead of reply - I've removed it now.

To be honest I have never lost a bigger snake and would imagine one would not be that difficult to find. I always kept the reptile room door closed so I knew that any escapees would be confined to that one room. I wish others would keep the doors closed too - it would make thier lives much easier! lol Saying that, if a large snake was to prove difficult to find I would simply make a bigger trap based on the above design. Then there is the old flour in doorways, scrunched up paper or plastic bags to make a noise if the snake passes by etc...

can take a long time before a lost snake comes back and you will probably find it will hide in dark warmspaces
