Default Chilean Rose

Im very soon to inherit my brother chilean rose, she will coem complete with her set up and eats wekk and has shed. We've only had her about a year and she hasnt really been handled in this time so any handling tips would be great.

I think shes a girl, but again any tips on sexing would be cool and just generally any advice anyone wants to give me will be greatly accepted, she likes her crickets but is this all she should be eating or can I feed her anything else? How often should I change the substrate etc anything like that!

I'll get some pics on soon as I can too

Cheers
Maria

As a general rule of the thumb Tarantulas should never be handled they do not gain any satisfaction from this.

But i will suggest if you must do this to always handle them crouched down near the floor as if the Tarantula suddenly decides to bolt or you get startled the Tarantula will fall and if your at any height this fall will prove fatal, where as if this happens whilst your crouched a few inches from the floor the Tarantula will have a better chance of survival.

I will emphasize though i have never and will never handle any of my Tarantulas as i don't think it is necessary to stress them, i have a look but don't touch attitude.

imo it is the best attitude to take with them.

I have handled mine a few times I will admit. Curiosity won out, but I enjoy them much more when they don't have split abdomens.

Heheh, 'allo again, Amber! :vsmile: Good to see you're getting on with the new invert mod :vwink: Don't forget, I want to see some lovely spid pics in order to help convince vodkaj that we need to have a spid or two! And, also, some more snakey pics! Not that I'm needing much convincing on that front... I just like some gratuitous morelia piccies! Heheh!
