When people say put the heat mat on the lid.. this may sound realyl stupid but is that ontop of the lid (outside of the poly box) or iside the box attached to the underneath of the lid?!

cheers,

on the inside of the box radiating ther heat downwards(foil helps with this), just remember the only stupid question is the one that isnt asked

I actually use a glass fish tank half filled with water and have a 150w aquarium heater in the water. I put mesh above the surface of the water and hey presto. Belive it or not but since I used that I have had 100% dragon and corn hatch rates.

ive heard of this method before. got any photos you can add so members can see??

different methods seem to work for different people. I tried the polybox and didnt do very well. But they were not my corn eggs but a friends. Not needed one since.
i think as long as it works for you and your happy and get good results then thats the best inc!

I used a home made polybox and I tried a hovabaitor but was loosing eggs, with the tank method it worked. It is 100% humidity though for those who are humidity concious!

You will notice foil around the back, this was only put there deflect heat back into the tank as the room with all the reptiles and inverts was a very cold room in winter. I never used to use a thermostat either and just going with the inbuilt temp gaugeon the aquarium heater but I aquired a pulse stat which is fantastic for the job. People use house bricks to support the mesh but I put in a couple of pieces of Aluminium Angle affixed with silicone that the mesh rests on (just mods that I put in as I went along). The lid is a coated plyboard with a series of cut out holes with mesh over to provide a bit of air circulation.

An easy incubator to make and most pieces you can pick up from jumble sales, carboots or charity shops.

Downside is you have to drill holes in the base egg box otherwise the box holds water and your eggs will end up in a pool of H20! I also put dry vermiculate in the box, place the eggs in that and it's fine. Remember it's 100% humidity in there
