Default Bloody council

Council has done a visit and have told us to remove most of our animals. Thats not too much of a problem as i have lots compared to how many we are allowed however the reasoning behind some of their decision are stupid.

The council said they wish for us to remove MEL our corn as it feeds on livefoods and they feel that it would cause problems on escape. I don't know where they got there info.

Do you live some where that has a limit on animals you are allowed to house? As otherwise they cant tell you howmany animals you are allowed to have unless they/rspca feel the animals are being ill treated.

Also how do they know your corn is a live feeder? Surely the answer is to have a lock on the viv, unless they think the snake is houdini.

Are you sure the guy from the council knew what hes talking about?
as a mate of mine had over 30 boids including a 18ft burm and the council never bat an eyelid when they went round for a visit

i bet the guy who paid you a visit is a newboy to his job and is jumped up glorified pen pusher out to make life hell for people, you see them all the time.
I would get citizens advice and look at your tennency agreement to see if it states about a number of pets allowed.
I wouldnt have that id be furious

I had the council around my house a few months after we moved in to see how we were getting on and they did'nt say anything about my pets? in fact they were very impressed that they were so well cared for.

But i did ask permission before we moved in as I stated they were my pets and I could not part with them.

ok take it this is your home and you rent from the council. Ask to see a copy of your tennency agreement if you dotn have one and see if htereis anything on her about how many pets you can keep and remember that these are REPILES not pets ( a loophole) if it does not mention about reptiles there is no muchthey can do. A friend of mine has the council round coz someone told them they wre keeping and breeding snakes. They left the house happy that all animals wree cared for ok - but then the couoncil know nothing about reps lol!

Was this a planned visit - not being a council tennent im not sure if they can just turn up or not. plus untill you received any official paperwork from thme to prove anything not sure what elese they can do. Plus as said how did theyknow the corn was a live feeder- its not illegal to have live feeders if thats all they will eat. IF any animal escaped its not good for the animal, but if you have a dangerous dog and it escapes well yes it coudl kill someone - but a corn snake .........................me me thinks not lol!

IF they still say you need to get ride of animals then get it on paper and they wil lhaveto get an rspca officer with a warrent to come into your property and demand you do something. But if you haveto rehome them - then surley someone else will be in the same position.
Council are crazy at times and some of the jumped up little lads know JS!!
Next time they turn up dotn let them in unless you have written info from them to make an appointment to see you, or ask for a warrent to be able to enter your premesis - see what they say about that. Surely even as a tennent you have the right to have an appointment made and they cant just turn up ananounced.
That will then give you time to if need be take some of the reps elsewhere for a day or so/.But do check your tennency agreement and if it does not mention REPTILES thne they have no case! Pets usually mean domestics like cats n dogs - which can be a danger to other people.

all councils are different but my old council had reps under their exotic pets section, and you could keep......NONE, but after my local housing officer came round and saw how the snakes were kept he said he didnt have a problem with it. but yes as said they should make an appointment to come inside your home hich i think in most cases should be at least 24hrs in advance. you local tennants rights group will be able to advise you on your particular local authourity and what you can do. good luck with it i hope you get it sorted soon x

im in a council flat and all it says about pets in my agreement is no dogs, and nothing that could make lots of noise and pee off neighbors. Ive got locks on all my tanks just incase they pop round and kick up a fuss.
