So if they had different levels, one being for caimens, camels and all the other that are a lower risk, level two being vipers and other slightly more dangerous animals and then level three being the cobras, taipans and large cats, bears etc
DEFRA are trying to improve the DWAL 'system', they're trying to bring it in line so that each council will charge the same, each have the same requirements etc so it will be easier to get a license. I can see good and bad sides to this really.

As for license in categories, it's only a license, like a driving license you have the same license whether you drive a ferrari or a smart car. You could compare having a heavy goods license to having a pet shop license instead of a dwal.

The most recent fee I have for Chelmsford Borough Council is £213 (excluding veterinary fees) per annum. Although this price is from 2006, I have been unable to find any information regarding any potential fee increases/decreases elsewhere

I thought you had to be over 18 to get a DWA and for your borough you woudl have to contact your council PLUS you have to abide by rules and have any anti venom to hand for DWA's and cotnact your local hospital i should imagine and not many hospital in the UK are set up for snake bites etc. Sorry but i cant see them granting a DWA to a 10 yr old, a 10 yr old can not cope with a Dangerous animal.

agreed the council will not issue a 10 year old a dwa licence they wouldn't even issue it for poison arrow dart frogs ( Would help if they were on the dwa licence )

There are rumours going around that the DWAL is going to be a set fee of £50 per annum in all areas.

So god help us every man and his dog will be applying.

i think in our area its like £2000+ plus and thats without the extras ( thats what i was lead to beleive last year)
I feel it needs to be high to stop TWITS applying for them. I mean ive had idiots come in our shop asking to see the spitting cobras and they want to buy one - they have no idea what they are - BUT apparently they sound good! well thats teenagers for ya!
