Default Need advice pleasy folks!!!!!!

Ok big mistake introducing pond weed into the tank a couple of months ago. Poor baby plec can't cope with the algae flora which has gone nuts!
And loads of ice cream cone shaped snails too!
Hows the best way to sort this please? Have removed what I can but looks like a shipwreck with all the green stuff

Have you had this problem before, or am I imaging things, I'm sure I've read something similar before somewhere?

hi is your tank in direct sunlight ? do you perform regular water changes ? is your tank overstocked and do you overfeed the fish ? sorry about questions but just trying to establish some facts first,it sounds like a cyanobacteria bloom which may disappear on it's own if you remove the weed and as much of the snails as you can,the best thing is to test the water and the easiest way is to use test strips as it's mess free and takes seconds to do, you could have a nitrate problem,if so you need to do a 50% water change now and then a weekly 25% thereafter, you most probably also have high phosphate levels,if you have an external filter then put some rowaphos in it and this adsorbs the phosphate, your lights could be on for too long as well, try cutting down to 6-8 hours,if you have live plants this won't hurt too much for a short while, try all of these things in combination, cutting back a bit on the amount you feed can make a difference as well, sorry it's a bit long winded but can be a variety of things and not just one or two, good luck Paul

Not in direct sunlight and not overstocked. Methinketh hubby needed to do more water changes.
We have removed weed and scrubbed off sides. Have cleaned off ornaments with hot water.
Will do water check later, did one a couple of weeks ago and all was ok. I think the culprit is mainly the pond weed. What to do tho is something else!

Default excess weed in tank

Well you probably already have been told you need to empty the whole tank, clean everything and start again, i hope the tank is not too big, I know its a pain but it has to be done, do not use the chemical treatments as it upsets the water balance. hope this helps.

Well all is ok now in the tank. Harmony restored. LOL
Had to remove the snails and plants as well as a huge water change. Been ok now for a few weeks now.
